Studio Policies/Terms & Conditions

Effective May 2024

Please review and adhere to the following policies and procedures.

Continuation Policy

When students enroll in a semester of lessons, they commit to a guaranteed number of lessons and are required to pay monthly (or all at once). At the end of each semester, forms will be emailed to enroll or change the regular dates of upcoming lessons.

Automatic Continuation: Once the new semester starts, students will automatically continue into the following semester, and charges will proceed as normal.

Pausing/Cancellation: If students elect to pause or cancel lessons, please provide advance notice before the new semester begins. Without such notice, enrollment and billing will continue as scheduled.

1. Expectations of Punctuality:

Students are expected to arrive on time for all scheduled lessons. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your lesson to allow for setup and preparation.

If you are running late, please notify your instructor as soon as possible. Note that late arrivals may result in a shortened lesson, as the instructor may have other commitments.

Students are to be prepared for lessons by bringing all necessary materials:

  • Music Lesson Books

  • Assignment Notebooks

  • Other Assigned Materials

2. Expectations of Behavior During Lessons:

Respectful and attentive behavior is expected during all lessons. This includes listening attentively to your instructor, asking questions when needed, and refraining from disruptive behavior.

  • First instances of disruptive behavior will result in a warning.

  • All other instances will result in an email to the parent, detailing the disruptive behavior.

  • If disruptive behavior does not improve to meet expectations of the studio, this may result in expulsion. (If a student is dismissed from the studio, lessons will end immediately. Cost of remaining semester lessons will not be charged. If paid in full at the beginning of the semester, a refund will be given for remaining months. However, if a student is dismissed mid-month, refund will NOT be applied for remaining lessons in the month. Additionally, $50 cancellation fee will be applied and charged at the next date of billing).

3. Expectations of Respecting Studio Equipment:

All studio equipment, including pianos, keyboards, music stands, and learning materials, must be treated with care and respect.

  • Students must NOT place any food or drinks on or near the piano, as this can damage the instrument.

  • If you have any concerns about the condition of studio equipment, students are to notify instructor immediately.

4. Make-up Lessons:

Group Lessons:

Simply let us know BEFORE the start of the lesson via text or email that the lesson will be missed. You will be able to reschedule that lesson. The make-up lesson can take place during any group lesson time on the calendar (as long as there is an available piano).

Private Lessons:

Private lessons are much more difficult to reschedule, however if we are given 24-hour notice, lessons can be made up depending on instructor availability. If notice is given less than 24 hours before, the lesson will be forfeited — NO exceptions.

Please contact your private instructor directly to reschedule.

Any make-up lessons will be honored within the Semester. There is no maximum number of make-up lessons...However, if more than 5 accumulate, I will personally reach out. Make-up lessons cannot be traded for reduced payment.

5. Instructor Illness

In the event of instructor illness, students/parents will be notified via text, email, or phone call. A make-up lesson credit will be recorded for instructor illness. Make-up lessons cannot be traded for reduced payment.

6. Inclement Weather Policy:

In the event of inclement weather, lessons will proceed as scheduled unless otherwise notified by the instructor. If road conditions are hazardous or unsafe, parents/students will be notified via email by 1pm.

Parents/Students are responsible for checking their email or phone messages for weather-related updates and instructions.

7. Discontinuation Policy:

To discontinue lessons, a minimum of two weeks' notice is required. If a student discontinues lessons part-way through the month, a refund will not be issued, as the assigned date and time could have been given to another student.

8. At-home Practice

Home practice is not required. However, it IS expected.

Students will progress much faster in piano, and will retain MUCH more of what is learn if practice is held at home.

Here is our recommendation of at home practice (based on level).

Note that the provided numbers are our recommended minimum:

Primer

3 days a week, 10-15 minutes at a time

Level 1

3 days a week, 15-30 minutes at a time

Level 2a/2b

4-5 days a week, 30-45 minutes at a time

Level 3a/3b

5+ days a week, 30-60 min at a time

Level 4+
